BitDefender Security for Mail and Samba Servers

New Beasties have been ready for a few days. We are talking about the release of BitDefender Security for Mail/Samba Servers version 3.0.2 for FreeBSD. Despite the version number, this is the first maintenance release for this platform from the 3.0.x series and it addresses a number of issues reported by our clients.

Besides the usual bug fixes, this release brings two new things: a set of antispam engines with better signature support, and an improved MIME handling library. All these are just a small step towards moving a big part of the scanning process from disk to memory. More to come via Live! update. :)

We encourage everyone to upgrade or simply test and report any issues you might encounter. If it’s a bug, we will try to address it via an update. If it’s a feature, then we will add it to our todo list for the next major version.

Below is a list of issues of which we are already aware:

  • the RemoteAdmin quarantine does not render non-ISO-8859-1 mails;
  • the LDAP import does not work on group names with non-ascii characters;
  • not all daemons reload all their settings after a `bdsafe reload <daemon>’ command;
  • the Samba quarantine does not support search on location/file name;
  • the quarantine operations are case sensitive and require wildcards for exact string match;
  • the content filter attachment rules are applied only for the first match;
  • bdqmail leaves temporary files if qmail-smtpd exits due to a SIGTERM;
  • custom header and footer templates are lost after an upgrade;
  • all new update locations have the signature checking enabled by default after an upgrade;

The installation kits can be downloaded from here (Mail Servers) and here (Samba). More information about the products is available here (Mail Servers) and here (Samba).
